Hershey High School 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grade Bb Clarinet

Welcome to the Hershey High School 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grade Bb Clarinet page! These items are recommend by your teacher.

Mouthpiece: Most beginner and intermediate instruments are stocked with a basic beginner mouthpiece. While these mouthpieces are extremely accessible for beginners, they do not function well for advancing students. An upgrade in mouthpiece can make a significant difference in a student's sound and technique, as better materials and care are used in the craftsmanship of these mouthpieces. Below are both intermediate and advanced mouthpieces, at two different price points.

Ligatures: Most beginner instruments are stocked with metal ligatures. An upgrade would be to a Rovner Dark ligature which is prefered.

Reeds: At HMS & HHS, students use Vandoren "Blue Box" traditional reeds. A box of reeds generally lasts about 3 months, depending on how much you play/how often you rotate them. (#2.5 - HMS) (#3 HMS/HHS)

Reed Case: Your reed case should have slots for 4 reeds to rotate.

Silk Swab: Helps to clean the inside of your clarinet without scratching the metal/wood.

Clarinet Strap: Some clarinet players prefer to use a neck strap to alliterate some pressure on their figures and thumb. It is also a very helpful and useful accessory for marching band members.

Clarinet Stand: If the clarinet is being set down, it is helpful to have a stand to preventing unwanted damage and to ensure the clarinet is held properly.
