The martial opening theme, on a solo trumpet, gives way to a rich and lyrical middle section featuring the warm foundation tones of the organ. The piece concludes with a return to the opening material for the full organ. Even though he was influenced by Elgar and Walton, Mr. Betteridge maintains his own attractive harmonic style throughout.
